In response to the expulsion of Dr Pallavi Devulapalli from The Green Party, the West Norfolk group would like to issue the following statement.
‘Members of West Norfolk Green Party are saddened and horrified by the suspension and subsequent expulsion of Cllr Pallavi Devulapalli from the Green Party for allegedly breaking the terms of her No-Fault Suspension by attending an informal social at the home of the local coordinator at his personal invitation.
The Party’s disciplinary procedure has dragged on for months, does not allow input from third parties who were present at either the initial incident which led to the imposition of a no-fault suspension or the social event which has precipitated this decision. This has prevented members of the disciplinary committee from getting a more complete picture and thereby forced them into making a judgement based on a partial account of events. This is contrary to the principles of natural justice and therefore runs the risk of bringing the party into disrepute.
We believe that expulsion is an excessive, unnecessary and Draconian response to an incident which was not within the remit of the disciplinary committee to adjudicate upon. Pallavi is a dedicated, effective and hard-working councillor and we will continue to support her work.
Her suspension and subsequent expulsion has already brought the party into disrepute locally and nationally and we call on the Green Party leadership and executive to revisit this decision.’
